What if your country is listed as a country that we cannot ship to... and you are already a backer?

Due to the Covid Pandemic, there are many shipping restrictions and limitations globally. For backers from countries in the list, there are two options now: Option 1: Wait - As the situation changes almost monthly, the shipping limitations on some countries may be lifted before we ship. We are also constantly looking for alternative shipping method in your country and we still have over a month to do that before production is completed and shipping commence. You could therefore still fill in the survey and leave it open while we wait for an answer from our shipping services until 1-2 weeks before we ship like in late September/Early October 2020. Option 2: Cancel pledge - We are sad but we would totally understand if you choose to Request for a refund instead. Please send your backer number or name to orders@designinsight.com.sg to let us know and to process for a refund for you.

How do we pay for the shipping cost?

Shipping will be charged automatically when you select the pledge level.

How exactly does the BondCable work?

The BondCable bonds onto itself through its cleverly-designed cable profile. Made from high tensile and compression strength PVC, the grooves on the cable catch onto the protrusions, with opposing frictional forces bonding them together. Simple Coil it, then Squeeze and it will Bond to itself within the coil. It can then be easily pulled apart to start using again. No magnets, no sticky adhesives or pesky cable-tie/fasteners.

How easy is it to coil and squeeze? Do you need to squeeze while coiling?

It is easy to coil - simply align the groves together. As you continue to coil, the grooves would naturally fit into each other. The last act of squeezing locks this alignment into position. It is not necessary to squeeze while coiling, though it is totally natural that you will try to squeeze when coiling. And yes, you will get better and faster in coiling it naturally over time.

Does the cable head always end on the bundle's side when it is coiled?

It depends on your coiling. Some people will coil it tightly and others coil looser. However we have measured, tested with different people and make sure the cable length is the best for you to coil and end nicely!

Why is the length of BondCable 4” (1.2m)? Do you have a longer version?

We often encounter situations where we wish our charging cable was just a little longer to reach our standing work desk from a low power receptacle, or put . BondCable is deliberately designed as a little longer than the standard cable 3” (1m) cables that come as standard on most mobile devices. We love a longer version for the BondCables too. Unfortunately, we have to produce a minimum of 5000 of this length in carbon grey colour before we can produce a longer version. We have surely a longer cable length option when we hit the stretch goal target.

Last updated: June 16, 2020 07:43

Does BondCable have other colour options besides the original carbon grey color?

We love colourful BondCables too. Unfortunately, we have to produce a minimum of 10000 carbon grey colour BondCables before we can produce other colour options . We will have a new colour choice when we hit the stretch goal target.

Can I use the BondCable to charge my cell phone from my laptop?

Yes, you can use the right BondCable to charge your cell phone from your laptop or computer’s USB port. There are 5 different types of BondCable to suit most current phones and laptops in the market. For those newer laptops with USB-C ports, we have the Lightning to USB-C version with the latest Apple C94 chipset for fast charging, and USB-C to USB-C version that supports 20V/3A super fast charging for compatible Android devices. However, we are not able to produce 100W Thunderbolt 3 USB-C cables with dual 4K video output as the cables will be too thick for the BondCable’s self bonding to work.

Last updated: June 16, 2020 06:32

How durable is the BondCable?

The BondCable has reinforced cable relief on both ends and has been put through a Weighted Bending Test (1.1lb/500g, 120o for 10000 cycles) and a Plug-unplug Test (10000 times). All the cable samples passed these tests and continued to work whether charging or transferring data.

Last updated: June 16, 2020 06:32

Some of you have commented about the 180 degs bend near the cable head. (as shown on our photos) Will excessive coiling and uncoiling cause the BondCable to be damaged easily?

Our first Bond cable sample (since May 2019) is still working perfectly after extremely tight coiling/uncoiling and plugging in/out more than a few times daily. The aforementioned 180o bend was done deliberately to show that the cable relief portion is serving its purpose. Due to the sharp metal edges of the USB-A connector of our sample and our extremely tight and hard coiling to test the extremities, there are some visual markings on the ridged surfaces, but the core of the cable is still 100% undamaged and the cable still works perfectly.

Last updated: June 16, 2020 06:32

Can BondCable do data transfer?

All BondCables are capable of quick data transfer for syncing/transfering files, photos, music etc at a max. Transfer rate of 480 Mbps.

Last updated: June 16, 2020 06:32

What do you mean by MFi for the Lightning/Apple versions of BondCable?

MFi means Made For iPhone/iPad and other apple devices. BondCable is produced by an Apple-certified manufacturer. It has been tested and received MFi certification to meet the latest specs of the IOS system made for Apple devices so it would function just like an original Apple cable. (that is, you will NOT see a pop-up showing “Non certified cable” when connected and iOS updates will not affect its functionality)

Last updated: June 16, 2020 06:32

What material is the BondCable made of?

We have tested numerous types of material with different properties through our 18 months of development. To achieve the optimal “Bond/un-bond” performance, we finally selected high tensile/compression strength PVC, which is flexible, compressible yet strong.

Last updated: June 16, 2020 06:32

Can I mix and match (or even buy all the same) type of cables if I buy the pack of 3 or pack of 5?

Yes, you can choose any cable/s type in any combination you desire among the 5 cable types available!

Last updated: June 16, 2020 06:32

When and where do I provide my BondCable type choices and shipping details?

When the campaign ends, we will send you a survey (Powered by BackerKit) to fill in your cable choices, shipping details and even add more cables to your pledge. (in case some of your friends missed the campaign or you forgot about them!)

Last updated: June 16, 2020 06:32

Does the BondCable come with a warranty?

We are certain that the BondCable will last longer than most phones’ useful life. However, selling at the special low kickstarter prices averaging around $9.90 per cable, we cannot find a feasible way to implement a full warranty service. However, we will certainly send you a full replacement in the (extremely) unlikely event that the cable you received is faulty upon delivery. (ie:, not charging, not synching or broken due to shipping)

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
